Janice Merrick

Ms. Janice Merrick was born on January 30th, 1938 in the city of Fyzabad, on the island of Trinidad in the West Indies to parents Nolan Merrick and Tellin DeGourville. She attended and graduated from Naparima Girls High School. She met Clyde James(deceased) at the age of 18 and had a daughter June James(deceased). At the age of 26 she then met Alroy Pariag, with whom she had a son (Marlon Pariag). She settled down with Alroy and they lived together raising her 2 kids. She was self-employed as a Seamstress and plied her trade for more than 35 years, owning her own business. She was a very active member of the Catholic Church. She was very well known in her community in San Fernando. She resided in Vistabella till April of 1986 at which time she moved to Brooklyn, NY to be with her 2 children, who had migrated to the US a few years earlier. Janice was a very hard-working woman whose day began at 5 am and ended at 11pm. She was a very private and reserved woman who was loved and adored by everyone that knew her. She was affectionately called Nenny by most of her nieces and nephews. Janice had a big loving heart and she loved others despite her struggles to make her children and her husband comfortable and happy. She was an awesome cook, and her cooking was savored by many family members and friends. Janice provided for her children and in her young years provided for her siblings as well. She was preceded in death by Nolan Merrick, Tellin DeGourville, June James (her daughter), her brothers Ivan, Kenth, John, Uric, Shirley and Russell. Also preceding her in death were her sisters Una and Gwendolyn. Joining her in recent transition is her sister Linda Merrick. She leaves to cherish her memory her only living birthed child Marlon Pariag and his wife Linnie Babb, along with her 'adopted' children Roger Derry, Anthony Clarke and Brent Brewster, her grandchildren Shaquille Pariag and his wife Ashley Littles, Kobe Pariag and Sheamar Nichols. Her great grandchild Shaa Pariag. She also leaves Her sisters Irma Merrick, Eunice Merrick, Jacqueline Moore, and Patricia Samuels. There are also many nephews and nieces that were very close to her. The Merrick, DeGourville, Pariag, and Wylie families, as well as many friends. They are all mourning her passing.
