December 28, 1970 - April 8, 2021
Lisa Rose Marie Gilliam, 50, passed away after a long battle with breast cancer on April 8th, 2021 with her loved ones by her side. Lisa was born on December 28th, 1970 to Roland Ansel "Sonny" Day Jr. and Betty Frances Day. The youngest of 4 children, Lisa grew up in Jacksonville, FL where she was an active member of her church, spending time playing saxophone and piano in the band and volunteering her time where she could. She met and married Marty Gilliam and went on to have her daughter, Melissa, with whom she took great pride in being a loving mother and friend. Lisa began her career as a bank teller in 1991 and continued her path upwards, finally finding her footing in the loan division. A dedicated employee, she spent over 20 years at TIAA, climbing the corporate ladder to become a commercial loan administrator. She was frequently regarded in her field as a leader who strived to always provide exemplary customer service and was often praised for her dedication and diligence. In 2018 she was given the honor of being recognized as a TIAA Difference Maker for her perseverance through her cancer diagnosis and treatment. She would often sign up for volunteer opportunities where she spent time working with Habitat for Humanity, Feeding Northeast Florida, as well as speaking at senior centers about fraud prevention and leading a presentation for high school students through Junior Achievement teaching them financial literacy. Lisa was often found out and about. Never one to stay idle in her free time, she was always looking to see new places, try new things, or enjoy her day exploring town. Caring, strong, brave, and fiercely loyal, she had an extraordinary ability to connect with others and always embraced the opportunity to meet new people anywhere she went. Above all, she was a thoughtful friend and an inspiration to others. She fought valiantly with the spirit of a true warrior and never faltered even as her health declined. She will be remembered for her confidence, her easy-going personality, and more than anything, her courage. Lisa is survived by her daughter, Melissa Gilliam, brothers, Keith Day and Greg Day, her sister, Melody Dyal, step-son, Brandon Gilliam, and her partner, Don Montgomery, along with 4 grandsons, several nieces and nephews and the many friends she made everywhere she went. A memorial service will be held at Azaleana Manor on June 27th, 2021 at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, Lisa's family requests donations be made to Jacksonville Humane Society.
