George Hodges

George Hodges passed away on April 15th 2026. He rejoins his beloved daughter Melissa Hodges who preceded him on October 23rd 2022. He was born in Neustadt an der Weinstraße, Germany. Becoming a US citizen when he was 6 years old. His family settled in Leesville, Louisiana. Because of this some friends called him the “Cajun-kraut”. He joined the US Army at the tender age of 17. He wanted to help protect this country he loved. He was eventually discharged honorably as a disabled veteran. Till the end of his life his home always had an American flag displayed by the front porch. After discharge, he started working in construction. He was the superintendent for the 1st Berkman Plaza in Downtown Jacksonville. He was also the superintendent for multiple interior projects at UF Shands in Jacksonville. He was also an approved contractor for the Springfield Preservation Society. When he tired of working for others he started his own company “Hodges installations,” specializing in the repair, remodeling and Rehab of mobile homes. There was nothing he couldn't repair or remodel. He definitely had a gift. With his wife, Karen they raised three children. He was firm but loving. All the kids had chores that he required them to do, giving them allowances when it was possible. He was an amazing pool player. Their home became the spot for NASCAR and Jaguars every Sunday. Open house, everyone was welcome and fed. The neighborhood kids loved him and were always welcome 24/7. He made them feel welcome and most importantly safe. It was not uncommon to wake up Saturday morning with a dozen teenagers sleeping all through the house anywhere they could find, even on top of the pool table. He was diagnosed with stage 4 colon/liver cancer on 10/25/2022, 2 days after his daughter passed. He was always stubborn and had a hard head. He fought the good battle for 3 years. December 2025 he had to go on hospice because there was nothing else they could do. For anyone reading this do not skip your colonoscopy! It could truly save your life. He put his off for years so his diagnosis came a little too late. He was predeceased by his mother, Barbara Hodges AKA Oma, his daughter, Melissa, and multiple friends. He is survived by his wife Karen, and their five children Gene Hodges, Charlene Price and her husband Andre. Kareena Midgett and her husband Robert, Alexander Hodges and his wife Becca. He also leaves multiple grandchildren, Aiden Hodges, Lil Robby Midgett, Lincoln Hodges, Brandon Hodges, Brittany Frison, Nathaniel Hodges, Christopher Hodges, and the twins Sean and Shane Hodges. He also has multiple great-grandkids. Also mourning him will be his best friend's Paul Badazewski, and Richard Ahlgren and so many many other friends. Service will be held at the National Cemetery in Jacksonville in the fall. We would like to give a shout out to community hospice for the kind and loving care they gave him allowing him to pass in his home with his wife by his side.
