Joseph Underwood

Joseph Wayne Underwood passed peacefully on June 10, 2022 at home surrounded by family. He was born in Dallas, Texas and split his time growing up there and New Albany, Indiana. He was previously married to Pamela Sue Hernandez where he had four children Justin, Ryan, Brittany and Colby. Shortly after being married he enlisted in the United States Navy in 1985 as a Hospital Corpsman where he served honorably for 22 years. While in service he attended the University of Maryland, Campbell University and Southern Illinois University and obtained his Bachelor's degree in healthcare management. Joseph worked mainly in clinics, hospitals and deployed for Operation Desert Storm and Shield. He was not only a healthcare professional but teacher and mentor to many fellow Sailors and civilians. After the military he taught briefly at Sanford Brown Institute and later held positions as a Healthcare Administrator at Naval Hospital Jacksonville, UF Shands and Orange Park Medical Center. He later met and married Natalie Lynn Harley where he had another son Logan Jack. He will be remembered fondly by whose professional and personal lives he touched. He loved to travel with his family, especially to Walt Disney World. He had a lifelong passion for the Dallas Cowboys and Notre Dame football teams. His yells of triumph and sorrow were a staple at his home anytime his "Boys." He loved celebrating the holidays whether it be Halloween to Christmas. He lived for decorating the house in decorations and would make it a family affair. He, being a Sailor, had an attachment to the water, especially beaches. He loved Daytona Beach so much he decided to be married there where he married his wife Natalie. He was preceded in death by his father Joe Lee Underwood and mother Rita Joyce Condra. He is survived by his loving wife, Natalie; five children, Justin Underwood, Ryan (Kathleen) Underwood, Brittany Underwood, Colby (Stacey) Underwood and Logan Underwood: grandchildren, Jaylend Cowell, Jai'vion and Justice James, Ian Vincent and Benjamin Underwood, Alexis Underwood, Ava Ryan and Ashton Bell: siblings, Libby McCreight, Dee Underwood and Sam Condra: as various extended family.
