Winston Churchill Cover, Sr.

Winston Churchill Cover Sr. went home to be with the Lord on Monday, June 7, 2021, at the age of 78. Winston was born on December 28, 1942, to parents Albert Cover, a Farmer, and Vida Clarissa Cover, an Educator, in the Parish of Saint Ann, Jamaica West Indies. He was the eldest of 12 children - often himself looked to as a father figure by his siblings. Winston went to high school in Kingston, Jamaica, starting with Windsor High then graduating from Brampton Bay High. . Winston spent time working for the Jamaica Railway Corporation before migrating to the United States to earn his diploma in 1970 from Greer Technical Institute in Chicago, Illinois. Winston married his high school sweetheart, Delores Eugenie Bryan of Kingston, Jamaica, in 1971. From this union, they had three children, Shanamai Cover, Sophia Cover, and Winston Cover Jr, all raised in Queens New York. Winston was a hard worker that spent many years on the 2nd shift at International Paper Company in New York, eventually being promoted to Shift Manager. He also worked hard at home and could often be found outside beautifying his yard. A green thumb, Winston grew massive gardens with everything from herbs and tomatoes to avocados and ackee. He was a woodwork enthusiast, that expertly built tables, chairs, and cabinets for his family. Winston loved music. He DJ'd for family holidays, basement parties, and neighborhood fashion shows. One could always find him engrossed in his vast collection of vinyl records, spinning his favorites, especially on Sundays. Those who met Winston found him charming, smart, and easy-going. Those close to him knew him as resolute and dependable. He was proud of providing for his family, he showed up when needed and he endeavored to help however he was able. Winston was preceded in death by his father, Albert Cover, his mother, Vida Clarissa Cover, and his sister, Sonia Cover-Chandiler. Winston is survived by his wife, Delores Eugenie Cover; his children: Shanamai Cover, Sophia Cover, Winston Cover Jr. and his daughter-in-law Marita Bennett-Cover; grandchildren: Tiara Hyman, Temple Hyman Jr., Arrianae Barnes, Isaiah Parris, and Christopher Cover; siblings: Patrick Cover, Anthony Cover, Lenworth Cover, Ina Brown, Gloria Cover-Higgins, Delores Cover, Velma Cover-Anglin, Euginie Cover, Elain Flynn, and Marcia Cover; siblings-in-law: Leroy Bryan and Dorothea Rhoden; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and loved ones in the US and Jamaica.
